OpSail 2012 Virginia Poster Artist
Nationally acclaimed American artist John M. Barber has painted the Chesapeake Bay and the eastern seaboard for nearly three decades. A meticulous chronicler of its watermen, vessels, and lifestyles, Barber is one of the few maritime artists who doesn't just paint scenes, but the stories behind them - always invoking the magic of light to provide texture to his subjects and the Chesapeake's vanishing way of life. Mr. Barber depicts the Parade of Sail led by the USCGC Eagle followed by the remaining tall ships. The fleet passes by our country's modern fighting ships at the Norfolk Naval piers. USCGC Eagle is our nation's training sail vessel for future officers for the US Coast Guard. Susan Constant, also pictured in the scene is a replica of the original flagship of the English Virginia Company that was captained by Christopher Newport on their famed voyage to establish England's first permanent colony in America at Jamestown, Virginia. Posters will be abailable at the OpSail Merchandise location on site.
