2008 Schedule of Events
for Town Point Park & Ocean View Beach Park

Norfolk, Virginia, November 20, 2007 – The Norfolk Festevents’ Board of Directors and the City of Norfolk announced this week the 2008 schedule of events to be presented by AT&T for Town Point Park and Ocean View Beach Park. With the release of the 2008 schedule of events for Town Point Park and Ocean View Beach Park, Scherberger expressed gratitude to the City for their vision for its two public waterfront parks, and their continued commitment to city celebrations and open spaces by supporting the new plans for Town Point Park, which goes under construction later next year.

“The generosity of sponsors, contributors, volunteers and the community, combined with strong city support, have fueled one of the country’s most successful and recognized city celebration programs, stated Scherberger. We are honored to be a part of this great city and community and look forward to 2008 season of festivals, special events, tall ship visits and city celebrations that showcase Norfolk and her residents.”

The 2008 Season, presented by AT&T will deliver more than 100 days of innovative programming that provides quality family festivals, maritime events, city celebrations and concerts on Norfolk’s premier waterfronts. 2008 will also kick off a $1 million fundraising effort by Festevents’ Board of Directors to help defray costs for Town Point Park renovations, scheduled to begin in late October of 2008. The city of Norfolk and Festevents have long since recognized that the downtown and city landscape has changed considerably since 1982 and that the time has come to make improvements to the City’s premier waterfront park that will better serve the community and the guests of Norfolk.

New this year, wine enthusiasts will be privy to a sneak peak Spring Wine sampling on Friday, May 9, 5:30 pm – 8 pm. Admission into the park is free for the preview, with the option to purchase limited wine sampling tickets at $15 per person.

Kicking off the Bayou Boogaloo Weekend. Norfolk Festevents renews its commitment in 2008 to aid the on going 2005 hurricane relief efforts in Louisiana.  This year’s party will feature a special performance by the New Orleans Jazz Vipers and Swing dance lessons taught by Swing Virginia wearing vintage Swing costumes from 8:00 to 8:30 pm. The New Orleans artists who will be showing all weekend will be honored as special guests during the evening’s program. The cost to attend the Boogaloo benefit is free, however, once inside, guests will have the opportunity to contribute to the fundraising efforts through food and beverage sales and a special silent auction.  All proceeds from the evening’s event will be donated to the The Arts Council of New Orleans and their on going relief efforts with artists in the New Orleans region.  All guests attending will receive free tickets to the Bayou Boogaloo for Friday, June 20, (1 ticket per guest). 

New Orleans Jazz Vipers will provide entertainment on the Missing Kidney Bar Stage at 8:30 pm.

Norfolk’s Mid-Autumn Moon Festival commemorates one of the most celebrated of Chinese holidays, and is rich in Asian culture and tradition. Normally celebrated on the fifteenth day of the eighth lunar month in observance of the bountiful autumn harvest, the event can also be held at various times during the autumn season.  Members of the local Chinese community compare the Mid-Autumn Festival to the American Thanksgiving where families and friends come together to celebrate the bountiful harvest with a plentiful feast

From sunup to sundown, Town Point Park hosts some of the region’s best-known (and soon to be known) acoustic musicians.  BOB FM’s Hunter Hughes hosts “Sunrise on Sundays” live from the park Sunday morning, followed by an all day program of casual concerts showcasing 12 hours of 15 “casual concerts” on 3 outdoor stages from 6 am to 8 pm, with many of today’s best local, regional and national acoustic music artists.

Lots of great prizes and awards! Join in the fun at the 1st Annual Strollers on Parade from 12 noon – 1:00 pm. A cast of favorite storybook characters will lead the parade through the park, and after the parade- the Festival Photo Studio will be open for family photos to be taken with your favorite character!                                                                                                                
*10:30 am – 11:30 am Stroller and Wagon Decorating Station will be open for you to come by and get your stroller and wagon ready for the parade.  We will have some supplies on hand but ask that you bring some of your own to add that very special touch.

Due to high capacity attendance and space constraints in the park, Festevents cannot accommodate personal tables of any kind on the festival grounds. Picnic spreads and lawn chairs are welcome however only in designated areas. Festevents reserves the right to limit space for individual picnic areas in order to accommodate all patrons and to provide safe access through the festival grounds. Reserved table areas will be limited to the tables settings provided by Festevents; no additional personal chairs and or tables will be permitted in this area for the safety and enjoyment of our patrons. Due to ABC regulations, ticket holders must be 21 years of age to purchase or consume alcoholic beverages. Proper identification is required. Tickets are not-transferable and non-refundable.
