It's the 3rd Annual Books in the Park and this year is truly a celebration of the written word.
Barnes & Noble TCC and Norfolk Festevents reached out into the community to combine authors, crafters, local businesses, and entertainers to bring a one-of-a-kind event to
TowneBank Fountain Park.

Books in the Park will feature many stimulating activities including:
Cooking/Sustainable Living Tent featuring Chef Patrick Evans-Hylton Food Editor for Hampton Roads Magazine and his best selling book "Popcorn". 5 Points Farmer's Market will demo organic baby food and composting, and provide veggie snacks. Marta Holmberg, co-author of the "PETA Vegan College Cookbook" will also be in this tent.
Writer's Pavillion featuring Rique Johnson, author of the Jason Jerrard Detective Series. Rique will host authors from all genres and oversee an author presentation stage including: Jim Bernheimer, Tony Ruggiero, Kayt Harris, Ed Curry, Annette Finley-Crosswhite, Brenda Floyd, Nan Byrne, Thomas Yuill, Mendel Williams, and more! Authors will be speaking throughout the day.
Live Music and Poet Stage featuring Cesca Waterfield, author of "Bartab: An American Ballad". Cesca will be hosting an acoustic open-mic stage for local undiscovered musicians to perform.
Poet's Lounge featuring Jamaal Ali-Richardson, author of "Cupid's Crossroads". Jamaal will host poets including: Nancy Powell, Phyllis Johnson, Gerome Meminger, Dreason Ruckett, Ann Shalaski, Pete Freas, Mac McKinney, Debbie Lass, and Jules Ferguson. He will also host a Poet's Open-mic at 3pm.
TCC Information Tent featuring TCC Professor Robert Kunzinger and TCC Professor Tom Williams. Both will be reading from their books.
Activities for Children include the Children's Luau Garden featuring Towel Island, sidewalk chalk, stories and crafts. At 1pm, the winners of WHRO Go!Kids Writer's Contest will read their winning books on the main author's stage!
The following local businesses and organizations will be participating in Books in the Park:
- Naro Expanded Video providing their list of top 50 DVD's adapted from the printed word and two 16 rental blocks to raffle.
- Color Me Mine with ceramic bookworms for children
- Local Heroes Comics with this year's best from the Graphic Novel world.
- Dominion Derby Girls will demo kid's Klutz kits in the Luau Garden including Big Bubbles, Rock Painting, and Paper Airplanes.
- The Muse Writer's Workshop will host a Writer's Salon open to all writers from all genres from 12-3pm. And Stand Up Comedy performances in the author tent.
BNTCC will have a great selection of books for purchase in the park including titles from the Naro list, Graphic novels, books from favorite authors, green living and cookbooks, and many more!
