An inspired celebration of a great American holiday! The sun sparkles over the river and the fountains as the lush sounds of the Virginia Symphony Orchestra fill the air with music that proudly marks our nation's pride and patriotism. Gather family and friends and be among the first to enjoy this new musical tradition - one you will want to enjoy each year!
Event Highlights
The early evening Symphony performance will embrace the solemn holiday with patriotic music that captures the spirit of Memorial Day. Under the direction of Grammy Award-winning Music Director JoAnn Falletta, The Virginia Symphony Orchestra will take guests on an unforgettable journey of joy and tribute. The program includes the iconic sounds of:
- Raiders March from Raiders of the Lost Ark and Hymn to the Fallen from Saving Private Ryan by John Williams
- Victory at Sea by Richard Rodgers,
- God Bless America by Irving Berlin,
- Fanfare on Amazing Grace by Adolphus Hailstork
- Buckaroo Holiday, Hoe Down and Stars and Stripes Forever by Aaron Copland
- as well as an encore by John Philip Sousa
The evening is sure to bring the audience to their feet, and to tears.

Special Note: Lawn chairs and blankets are welcome. Coolers, food and soft drinks are permitted. No Alcohol or glass is permitted; food and alcohol will be available for purchase during the concert.

Town Point Park Performing Arts Series
"WHRO Memorial Day Concert - Symphony in the Park" is the second event in the
Town Point Park Performing Arts Series.
Town Point Park Performing Arts Series is comprised of three musical events on the Norfolk Festevents 2011 schedule that feature a few of Norfolk's award-winning performing arts organizations. The series consists of:
- An Enchanted Evening - The Music of Rodgers and Hammerstein Sunday, May 15.
- WHRO Memorial Day Concert - Symphony in the Park Monday, May 30
- Virginia Opera's 3rd Annual: Opera in the Park Concert Saturday, September 10
Performances for all three shows are 6pm-8pm with the Park opening early for picnics and family activities. All performances are free and open to the public at Town Point Park on the Downtown Norfolk Waterfront.
